Two features of Vallejo push almost every manual gate toward a slide. The first is the historic street grid: Heritage District and St. Vincent's lots are narrow, houses sit close to the street, and there is often no arc room at all. The second is slope. Glen Cove, down on the Carquinez Strait, is detached homes built from the 1970s onward on genuinely sloped lots, and a swing gate on a driveway that falls across its arc will scrape partway through every single time. Slide gates tolerate slope in a way swing gates simply cannot.

We put a level on the driveway and measure the fall across the full travel path on every visit, because that one measurement decides swing against slide and it cannot be taken from a photograph.
A slide gate, in nearly every case. Rolling and cantilever slide gates travel across the opening rather than arcing through it, so the fall of the driveway does not matter to them the way it does to a swing gate. Cantilever is the better choice if debris or standing water is an issue at the track line.
